The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the final forfeiture of 48 out of 57 properties linked to former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, to the Federal Government of Nigeria.
Delivering judgment on Wednesday, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik held that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission successfully established reasonable suspicion that the assets were proceeds of unlawful activities.
The court ruled that Malami, his family members, and associated companies failed to convincingly prove that the funds used to acquire the properties were legitimate.
While ordering the permanent forfeiture of 48 assets, the court, however, discharged the interim forfeiture order earlier placed on the remaining nine properties.
The EFCC had initially secured an interim forfeiture of 57 properties in January 2026 before Justice Emeka Nwite, in a suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/20/2026. At the time, the commission disclosed that the assets were valued at about ₦213.2 billion and spread across Abuja, Kebbi, Kano, and Kaduna states.
