Lagos NURTW Organising Secretary Ajiboye, Killed by Gunmen - The Alternative News

The Organising Secretary of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Lagos State Council, Toba Ajiboye, popularly known as Ijaya, has died after being shot by yet-to-be-identified gunmen in Lagos.

Ajiboye was reportedly attacked on Sunday night while returning home from his childhood neighbourhood in Fadeyi. Sources said the assailants intercepted his vehicle along the Ikorodu Road axis and opened fire, leaving the car riddled with bullet holes.

Images and videos circulating on social media showed his white vehicle with multiple bullet holes across the windscreen and other parts. Initial reports indicated that Ajiboye and other occupants survived the attack with gunshot injuries, but later updates confirmed that he died from the wounds sustained.

Reacting to the incident, Lagos NURTW Chairman, Mustapha Adekunle, popularly known as Sego, expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing Ajiboye as a loyal ally and trusted friend.

In a tribute shared on his Facebook page, Adekunle said he was devastated by the death, noting that Ajiboye’s dedication to the union and their political structure would be greatly missed.

“The news of the sudden passing of Comrade Toba Ajiboye has left me deeply saddened and heartbroken. It is difficult to come to terms with the loss of such a loyal, dependable, and committed ally,” he wrote.

He described the late union leader as more than an associate, highlighting his unwavering commitment and role within the union.

Adekunle also extended condolences to Ajiboye’s family, friends, and members of the NURTW, praying for strength to bear the loss and for the repose of the deceased’s soul.

The killing adds to growing concerns over security and targeted attacks within parts of the state. Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the incident as investigations continue.
