Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen has come under criticism following a heated clash with Villarreal defender Santiago Mourino during a pre-season friendly.
Osimhen confronted the Uruguay international during Galatasaray’s 2-1 defeat to Villarreal at RAMS Park over the weekend. The Nigerian striker was reportedly unhappy after Mourino used his body to prevent him from advancing into a dangerous position inside the penalty area.
Villarreal head coach Inigo Perez criticised Osimhen after the match, accusing the Nigerian of attacking Mourino and arguing that he deserved a red card rather than a yellow.
“There is not much to say about the football, because the opposing team didn’t come onto the field to play football, but to fight,” Perez said.
“Osimhen attacked our player out of nowhere and only got a yellow card.”
The incident has sparked debate over Osimhen’s conduct and the referee’s decision to caution rather than dismiss the striker.
