The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released the results of the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates.

The announcement was made on Wednesday via the council’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle, urging candidates to generate their PINs and check their results online.

Speaking at a press conference in Lagos, the Head of WAEC Nigeria National Office, Dr. Amos Dangut, disclosed that the results of 167,486 candidates, representing 8.59 percent, were withheld due to alleged examination malpractice.

According to WAEC, a total of 1,959,668 candidates from 24,207 schools across Nigeria, Benin Republic, Côte d’Ivoire, and Equatorial Guinea registered for the examination, while 1,950,726 candidates eventually sat for it.

Out of those who took the examination, 1,200,514 candidates (61.54 percent) obtained credits and above in at least five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics. Meanwhile, 1,687,378 candidates (86.50 percent) secured five credits and above, with or without English Language and Mathematics.

The council noted a slight decline of 1.42 percentage points in the number of candidates who achieved five credits, including English and Mathematics, compared to the 2025 results.

A gender breakdown showed that of the candidates who met the benchmark of five credits including English and Mathematics, 558,883 (28.65 percent) were male, while 641,631 (32.89 percent) were female.

In total, 997,267 females (51.12 percent) and 953,459 males (48.88 percent) participated in the examination.

WAEC further revealed that 1,834,695 candidates (94.05 percent) had their results fully processed and released, while 116,031 candidates (5.95 percent) still have their results being processed.

How to Check 2026 WAEC Results

Candidates can follow these steps to access their results:

Visit the WAEC official website and navigate to the “Serial Number and PIN” section.

Select the appropriate examination year and diet.

Enter your examination number and National Identification Number (NIN) used during registration.

Provide your email address and phone number to generate a One-Time Password (OTP).

Input the OTP to retrieve your Serial Number and PIN, then proceed to check your result.

Candidates also have the option to download their WAEC ID card on their mobile devices.
