Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has hinted at another run for the presidency in 2027, declaring a tough stance against corruption if elected. In a viral video circulating on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Atiku, speaking in Hausa, vowed to take strong action against anyone found guilty of corruption.
“I swear to God, if elected, whoever steals or engages in any corruption-related activities, we will declare war against them and they must be punished,” Atiku said.
Having contested the 2023 presidential election under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which he lost, Atiku is now believed to be working closely with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) through a newly formed opposition coalition.
Although he has not officially announced his defection from the PDP, sources say Atiku has become a key figure in the ADC-led alliance, signaling a possible platform shift for the 2027 race.
The coalition recently appointed David Mark as Interim National Chairman and Rauf Aregbesola as Interim National Secretary, alongside other prominent figures, a move that analysts say strengthens the opposition ahead of the next general elections.
