ADC: Peter Obi’ll End Up as DG to Atiku-Amaechi – APC Chieftain - The Alternative News

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Akindele Ayekooto, has stirred controversy with claims that former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, will not emerge as the presidential flagbearer of the African Democratic Congress (ADC)-led coalition.

In a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Ayekooto stated,

“From the look of things, Peter Obi will be the DG of Atiku-Amaechi Campaign Organisation.”

This assertion comes amid reports that key political figures such as Atiku Abubakar and Rotimi Amaechi are positioning themselves for the 2027 presidential race under the emerging ADC coalition.

Atiku, a former Vice President and PDP standard-bearer in multiple elections, is reportedly preparing for another shot at the presidency, maintaining a public anti-corruption stance. Similarly, Amaechi, a former Minister of Transportation, is believed to be nursing a 2027 ambition.

Meanwhile, Peter Obi has consistently declared his intention to contest again in 2027, following his strong third-place showing in the 2023 elections, where he ran on the platform of the Labour Party.

Ayekooto's comments appear to question Obi’s political leverage within the coalition, suggesting he may be relegated to a campaign management role rather than a frontline candidacy, a proposition that may not sit well with his supporters.

The remark has sparked fresh debate over the internal power dynamics of the ADC coalition, and the potential challenges of uniting heavyweight opposition figures with individual ambitions.
