Petroleum marketers across Nigeria have announced a reduction in petrol prices starting Tuesday, July 15, coinciding with the public holiday declared by the Federal Government to honour the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) confirmed the development following a drop in Dangote Refinery’s ex-depot price to ₦820 per litre from ₦840. IPMAN National President, Abubakar Maigandi, disclosed that most members had agreed to reduce retail prices in response.
In Abuja and parts of North Central Nigeria, petrol will now sell between ₦900 and ₦920 per litre, down from the previous ₦905–₦945 range. Prices in other regions are expected to range from ₦860 to ₦890 per litre.
The reduction follows two recent price cuts by Dangote Refinery in July and is attributed to the liberalization of the downstream oil sector and declining global crude oil prices, which stood at $69.10 (Brent) and $66.98 (WTI) per barrel as of Monday.
The announcement comes as the nation observes a public holiday to mark Buhari’s burial, scheduled to take place in Daura, Katsina State, on Tuesday, July 15, following his death in London on Sunday.
