"They Beheaded My Son Before My Eyes, Licked His Blood" – Grieving Mother Recounts Kano Gang Horror - The Alternative News

The spate of gang violence in Kano State has reached horrifying new levels, with innocent residents now bearing the brunt of escalating rival clashes.

Last weekend, a deadly confrontation between gangs in Kurna Mayanka, Yan Yashi, and Tudun Fulani communities left at least four people dead, including Usman Hamidan, who was brutally murdered inside his own home.

In an emotionally wrenching interview with DAILY POST, Usman's mother, Hajiya Habi Hamidan, an 80-year-old woman battling paralysis, recounted the terrifying moment her only son was slaughtered in front of her eyes.

“They broke into our house in the middle of the night while I was sick in my room. I heard his screams in the courtyard. When I looked, I saw four masked men. I begged them to spare him, but they said they had a mission to kill him,” she sobbed.

The grieving mother narrated how the attackers beheaded her son and left his blood and brains spilled across the courtyard.

“The whole place looked like an abattoir. Blood was everywhere. They even licked the blood from their knives as I watched. He was my only son, the one who took care of me. Allah will judge them,” she said.

Usman's murder is just one in a string of similar attacks reported in Kurna, located in Ungogo Local Government Area, where thugs now invade homes under the cover of darkness to carry out executions.

Chairman of the local vigilante group, Alhaji Bashir Lawal Moriki, condemned the violence and blamed parents for shielding their delinquent children.

“These boys are from this community, not from the sky. Parents must stop protecting them. Even if it’s my own son, I’ll hand him over to the authorities,” Moriki vowed.

A young security guard named Sabiu, who narrowly escaped death during an attack, described how he was ambushed with a bright light before being slashed with knives.

“Before I realized what was happening, I was being cut and beaten. You can still see the wounds on my head,” he said, showing visible scars.

Residents point to rampant drug abuse among youth as a key factor driving the violence. Many also allege that police often arrest innocent young people, increasing fear and distrust in the community.

During a visit to the affected areas, Kano State Commissioner for Internal Security, AVM Ibrahim Umar (Rtd.), urged residents to take proactive steps to protect themselves when under attack, pending the arrival of security forces.

Efforts by DAILY POST to reach the Kano State Police Command for comments on the allegations and the ongoing investigations were unsuccessful.

The recent surge in home invasions and targeted killings marks a dangerous shift in the nature of Kano’s gang violence—once confined to street fights but now creeping into private homes.
