President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will personally receive the remains of former President Muhammadu Buhari in Katsina on Tuesday, July 15, as part of the arrangements for his state burial.

The Federal Government announced that Buhari’s body will arrive at the Katsina airport by 12:00 p.m., ahead of his burial at 3:00 p.m. in Daura, his hometown in Katsina State.

Speaking at a formal briefing on Monday evening, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, confirmed that the government had finalized preparations for a state funeral for the late former president, who died on Sunday in London after a prolonged illness.

Idris stated that an Inter-Ministerial Committee, chaired by Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, was coordinating the burial activities in collaboration with the Katsina State Government and the Buhari family.

Upon arrival, the body will be conveyed to Daura, where the Jana’iza (Islamic funeral prayer) will be held, followed by interment at the late president’s private residence.

Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s Head of State from 1984 to 1985 and later as President from 2015 to 2023, will be laid to rest with full state honours.
