EPL: 16-Year-Old Ngumoha Scores Winner as Liverpool Edge Newcastle 3-2 - The Alternative News

Sixteen-year-old Rio Ngumoha etched his name into Liverpool’s history books on Monday night, coming off the bench to score a dramatic 100th-minute winner in a thrilling 3-2 victory over Newcastle United at St. James’ Park.

Liverpool had taken control early, with Ryan Gravenberch opening the scoring in the 35th minute with a thunderous strike from distance. Just seconds after the restart, Hugo Ekitike doubled the advantage with a composed finish to silence the home crowd.

Newcastle’s hopes dimmed further when Anthony Gordon was shown a straight red card on the stroke of halftime following a VAR review of his reckless tackle on Virgil van Dijk. Yet, despite being a man down, the Magpies mounted a spirited comeback. Bruno Guimarães pulled one back with a towering header in the 57th minute, before substitute William Osula struck in the 88th to level the match.

With the game seemingly headed for a draw, Mohamed Salah slipped a clever pass to Ngumoha deep into stoppage time. The teenager showed remarkable composure, slotting past Nick Pope to not only secure all three points but also become the youngest goalscorer in Liverpool’s storied history.

The result leaves Eddie Howe’s men reflecting on what might have been, while Arne Slot’s Liverpool continue their impressive start to the Premier League season.
