Kwam 1 Should Face Life Imprisonment for Endangering Aircraft – Lawyer - The Alternative News

Prominent Nigerian lawyer and public affairs analyst, Abdul Mahmud, has called for the arrest and prosecution of popular Fuji musician and staunch supporter of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, also known as Kwam 1 or K1 De Ultimate, for allegedly endangering the safety of an aircraft and its passengers.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Mahmud described the incident, reportedly involving Kwam 1 on an airport runway, as a serious aviation offence under Section 33 of the Civil Aviation Act, 2022.

“A drunken man, inflated by his own fantasy of influence, thought it wise to body-check an aircraft as it prepared to taxi. Not on a street. On a runway. And people are talking about a ban?” Mahmud stated.

He condemned calls for a mere airport ban, warning that such leniency trivializes the gravity of the offence and undermines the integrity of Nigeria’s aviation system.

According to Section 33 of the Civil Aviation Act, 2022: “A person commits an offence if he or she does any act or omission which endangers or is likely to endanger the safety of an aircraft in flight, taxiing, landing or taking off.”

Mahmud stressed that the offence is strict liability in nature, meaning intent is irrelevant and the act alone is enough for conviction.

“This is not a moment for slap-on-the-wrist theatrics. It is a grave criminal offence. An act that endangered not just an aircraft, but lives, order, and the integrity of our aviation system,” he added.
