The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed that its national convention slated for November 15 in Ibadan, Oyo State, will go ahead as planned, describing the date as “sacrosanct.”
The party issued the declaration on Tuesday in Abuja during the inauguration of its 119-member National Convention Organising Committee.
Speaking at the event, PDP leaders said those opposing the convention should test their popularity at the polls.
“Anyone who is against the exercise should buy a form, go to Ibadan, and test their popularity and strength,” the party stated.
The insistence comes amid renewed agitation from Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, and some stakeholders, who are demanding that the national chairmanship of the party be zoned to the North-Central.
So far, the party leadership has largely ignored Wike’s demands.
