Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have rescued a man from an attempted jungle justice in Okpoko, Ogbaru Local Government Area, after he was alleged to have murdered a 25-year-old and concealed the victim’s dismembered body in a refrigerator.
The suspect, identified as Leberechi (surname unknown), aged about 30, was reportedly beaten into unconsciousness by a mob before police operatives attached to the Okpoko Division intervened on September 2, 2025.
According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspect was immediately taken to a hospital for treatment and is currently under armed guard to prevent escape.
Police operatives who visited the crime scene discovered the decomposing body parts of the victim hidden inside a refrigerator. The remains were evacuated to a mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka, for a comprehensive investigation to ensure justice is served in line with the law.
