The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has assured that it will work with Governor Siminalayi Fubara when he resumes office on September 18.

Speaking at a press briefing in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, the state APC Chairman, Chief Tony Okocha, confirmed that the governor, who was suspended following the declaration of a state of emergency in March, will return to his position later this month.

“The governor who was suspended will return to office on September 18. The APC will work with him when he returns,” Okocha said.

He explained that the party’s cooperation does not mean it will stop holding the governor accountable.

“There are states where the governor and assembly members are in different parties, so we are going to work with him. However, that will not take away our right to criticise him when he does wrong. The LG chairmen will also work with him, except that we will not agree to vicious policies,” he added.

On March 18, President Bola Tinubu suspended Fubara, his deputy, and the state House of Assembly while declaring a six-month state of emergency in Rivers. A sole administrator was appointed to oversee the affairs of the state during the period.
