Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have successfully rescued two missing children, Sunday Aliya (14) and Ebenezer Emmanuel (12), following a painstaking nine-month investigation that stretched across several states in Nigeria.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the rescue operation was carried out by officers attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Gender Section.
Ikenga revealed that the case was first reported at Fegge Police Station on January 18, 2025, after the boys’ guardian said they had gone to fetch water at a nearby borehole and never returned home. Preliminary investigation led to the transfer of the case to the SCID, Awka, for further inquiry.
Acting on credible intelligence, police operatives tracked and arrested one Yusuf in Katsina State. During interrogation, the suspect provided vital information that led to the rescue of Sunday Aliya in Umunede, Delta State, and Ebenezer Emmanuel in Benin City, Edo State.
Commending the officers for their diligence and professionalism, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, reiterated the Command’s commitment to pursuing every lead, regardless of how long it takes, to ensure justice is served.
He also thanked residents for their cooperation and urged the public to continue providing the Police with useful information that could aid investigations and enhance community safety.
Meanwhile, the Command has contacted the parents of the rescued children, who live in Ilorin, Kwara State, and said arrangements are underway for their formal reunification.
