Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has debunked rumours claiming he has defected from the Labour Party (LP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a statement on Tuesday, the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, described the reports as false and mischievous, attributing them to political detractors unsettled by the governor’s performance and rising popularity.

Kanu reaffirmed that Governor Otti remains a proud and committed member of the Labour Party, the platform on which he was elected. He added that Otti’s focus remains on rebuilding Abia, promoting transparency, and ensuring good governance across the state.

The statement recalled that during the recent edition of “Governor Alex Otti Speaks to Abians,” the governor emphasized his commitment to service and transformation, not political scheming.

Kanu urged residents to ignore the defection rumours, stressing that Otti’s administration continues to operate on the principles of accountability, fiscal discipline, infrastructure renewal, youth empowerment, and inclusive development.

“Governor Alex Otti remains resolute in his mission to build a new Abia where truth, justice, and equity prevail under the banner of the Labour Party,” the statement concluded.
