School Support Officers (SSOs) across Ogun State have been charged to inculcate the effect of training on monitoring, mentoring and school support skills in public primary schools.

The Chairman of the Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Evangelist Olalekan Ifede, gave the charge while addressing participants at a 5-day training organised by SUBEB in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) at Abeokuta, the State capital.

Represented by the Board Secretary, Mr. Olubori Akinleye, Evangelist Ifede emphasised that the importance of such training on monitoring and the rest could not be over emphasised, noting that it was vital for the improvement of the school system.

“You will all agree with me that the importance of training cannot be over stressed. I want to enjoin you to see this training as an opportunity to sharpen your skills and become better officers,” he stated.

He added that the roles of School Support Officers were crucial to promoting discipline and enhancing learning outcomes in schools, urging participants to demonstrate the knowledge gained during the training in their respective local governments.

“We want to see the effect of this training in schools. We are expecting feedback from your various local governments. Ensure that you share knowledge, don’t let the training end here,” Ifede concluded.

Also speaking, the UBEC State Coordinator, Mr. Sola Badmus, commended the participants for their cooperation and contributions throughout the training, encouraging them to imbibe and replicate the spirit of learning in their schools.

Earlier, Director of Teacher Development, Mr. Kolawole Adagojo, explained that the training, which involved both teaching and non-teaching staff, was designed to build capacity in school support for effective teaching and learning.

The resource person, Prof. Ebun Yonlonfoun, highlighted that participants were trained on the duties of School Support Officers, stressing the need for discipline, good listening skills, respect for teachers, and professional conduct.

Speaking on behalf of the participants, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Abayomi and Dr. Adebayo Babawande appreciated SUBEB and UBEC for the initiative, pledging to apply the knowledge gained in the discharge of their duties.
