Insecurity: Kwara Government Shuts 45 Schools, Redeploys Teachers Over Bandit Attacks - The Alternative News

The Kwara State Government has ordered the closure of 45 public schools in communities affected by rising insecurity and bandit attacks across the state.

The Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board (KWSUBEB), Prof. Sheu Ibrahim Adaramaja, disclosed this on Tuesday in Ilorin during the Inter-Ministerial Press Briefing organised by the Ministry of Communications.

According to Adaramaja, the affected schools are located in volatile communities such as Babanla, Baba Sango, Sangbe, Oke-Ode, and several others that have recently come under threat from bandits.

He explained that the move was aimed at safeguarding students and teachers from possible attacks, adding that teachers from the closed schools have been redeployed to safer areas to ensure continued teaching activities and justify their monthly salaries.

The SUBEB chairman further revealed that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s administration has approved the 2025 promotion for teachers across the state as part of efforts to boost morale and enhance productivity. He also announced the abolition of Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) levies in all public schools.

The decision comes amid escalating insecurity in parts of Kwara North, particularly in Patigi Local Government Area, where residents recently protested the worsening wave of killings and kidnappings.

The protesters accused the state government of neglect and demanded urgent intervention, warning that continued insecurity could cripple economic activities and worsen the humanitarian situation in the region.
