JUST IN: Tinubu Swears In Two New Ministers, Holds First FEC Meeting Since July

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday administered the oath of office to Dr. Bernard Doro and Dr. Kingsley Udeh as ministers of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, officially inducting them into the Federal Executive Council (FEC).

The ceremony, held at 1:52 p.m. inside the Council Chamber of the State House, Abuja, came just minutes before the commencement of the FEC meeting, the first since July 2025.

Thursday’s event restores cabinet representation for Plateau and Enugu States, both of which had been without ministerial presence in recent weeks.

Dr. Bernard Doro, a UK-trained clinical practitioner and seasoned pharmaceutical and public health administrator, was nominated on October 21 to replace Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, who resigned as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction after emerging as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on July 31, 2025.

Hailing from Kwall, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, Doro boasts over two decades of experience spanning clinical medicine, pharmacy, and IT-driven health strategy. According to the Presidency, he holds multiple degrees in Pharmacy, Law, and Advanced Clinical Practice, and has served extensively within the UK’s National Health Service (NHS).

Meanwhile, Dr. Kingsley Udeh, who until his nomination served as Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Enugu State, replaces Uche Nnaji, the former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology. Nnaji resigned on October 7, 2025, following controversies surrounding his academic credentials at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

Recently conferred with the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Udeh was nominated by President Tinubu on November 4 and swiftly confirmed by the Senate.

Their induction brings the size of Tinubu’s cabinet to 48 ministers.

Following the swearing-in, the President presided over the FEC meeting, where the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, briefed the council on Nigeria’s return to the international capital market.

Edun revealed that the $2.35 billion Eurobond issued by Nigeria was oversubscribed by 453 per cent, attracting $13 billion in investor orders, a reflection of renewed global confidence in the nation’s economic direction.

“The next phase of reforms will remove barriers holding back investors. We will review tariffs and import restrictions to stimulate productivity and investment,” Edun stated.

He added that a comprehensive review of the Federation’s and Federal Government’s balance sheets is ongoing to optimise asset management for inclusive growth, while efforts are being made to enhance fiscal reporting, budget realism, and expenditure control.

President Tinubu, in his remarks, commended the progress and assured that despite political and economic headwinds, Nigeria remains committed to engaging global partners, strengthening diplomacy, and restoring investor confidence.

“Our task remains clear, to defeat terrorism and deliver a peaceful, inclusive, and prosperous Nigeria,” he said.
