Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, mother of former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, has died.

Details surrounding her death remain unclear as of the time of filing this report, but family sources indicate that she passed away on Friday afternoon.

Her grandson, Bello El-Rufai, confirmed the development in a statement shared on Facebook.

“Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. From Allah SWT we came and to Him we shall all return. I would like to inform the public of the demise of my Grandmother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai who passed away a few hours ago,” he wrote.

He described the deceased as the biological mother of Nasir El-Rufai and expressed gratitude for her life, while appealing to the public for prayers for her soul.

The development comes amid the ongoing legal challenges involving the former governor.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) recently arraigned El-Rufai on a 10-count charge bordering on alleged conversion of public property and money laundering after about one month in detention.

He pleaded not guilty to all charges.

A Federal High Court sitting in Kaduna, presided over by Justice Rilwanu Aikawa, has adjourned the hearing of his bail application to March 31 after taking arguments from both the defence and prosecution.
