Nigeria Edge Iran 2–1 in Friendly as Simon, Adams Shine | The Alternative News

Nigeria’s Super Eagles secured a 2–1 victory over Iran in an international friendly on Friday, delivering a composed performance as preparations continue for upcoming fixtures.

The three-time African champions made an early statement, taking the lead in the 7th minute through Moses Simon, who finished off a well-worked move assisted by Samuel Chukwueze. The early goal set the tone for Nigeria’s attacking intent.

The Super Eagles extended their advantage shortly after the break, with Akor Adams finding the net in the 52nd minute. The striker converted a precise assist from Ademola Lookman to double Nigeria’s lead.

Iran responded in the 67th minute, as Mehdi Taremi pulled one back to reduce the deficit. However, Nigeria maintained defensive discipline to see out the game and secure the win.

The encounter forms part of Nigeria’s build-up programme, with head coach Eric Chelle using the fixture to assess player combinations and tactical adjustments ahead of more competitive outings.

Attention now shifts to Nigeria’s next friendly against Jordan on March 31 at the Mardan Stadyumu in Antalya, Turkey. The match is part of a four-nation tournament aimed at providing quality match experience for participating teams.

Although Nigeria will not feature at the forthcoming World Cup, the series of friendlies is expected to play a key role in rebuilding the squad and sustaining competitive momentum.

The result will likely boost confidence among supporters, particularly with the team’s attacking display offering encouraging signs for the future.
