The Plateau State Government has imposed a 48-hour curfew in Jos North Local Government Area following a deadly attack on Gari Ya Waye community in Angwan Rukuba.
Residents were thrown into panic on Sunday evening after suspected gunmen stormed the area at about 7:50 p.m., opening fire on civilians. The assault left several people feared dead, while many others sustained injuries, although the exact casualty figures remain unconfirmed.
The curfew, announced in a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Joyce Lohya Ramnap, took effect from midnight on March 29 and will remain in force until April 1, 2026.
The government described the incident as a tragic security breach resulting in loss of lives and injuries. The administration of Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang condemned the attack, characterising it as barbaric and unprovoked.
According to the statement, the curfew was imposed in collaboration with security agencies to restore order and prevent further escalation of violence.
Authorities assured residents that efforts were underway to apprehend those responsible, while urging the public to remain calm, vigilant, and cooperate with security operatives by providing relevant information to aid ongoing investigations.
