The Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), has commended a Non-Governmental Organisation, WhyBlueSky, for sustaining and strengthening its partnership in enhancing the quality of teaching and learning in public primary schools across the State.
Chairman of the Board, Evangelist Olalekan Ifede, gave the commendation while receiving representatives of the organisation in his office at Oke-Mosan Abeokuta, noting that collaboration with relevant Educational partners remained vital to improving teachers’ capacity and equipping pupils with modern learning skills.
Ifede, explained that partnership with organisations like WhyBlueSky would help expose teachers to innovative teaching techniques, particularly in areas related to science, technology and creative learning methods.
The SUBEB Boss emphasised that continuous collaboration would further support the State government’s efforts at strengthening Basic Education and ensuring that pupils in Public Primary Schools receive quality and globally competitive Education.
In her remarks, Chief Executive Officer of the organisation, Mrs. Agatha Wiliams, reiterated their commitment to supporting teachers through training programmes, innovative lesson materials and educational resources aimed at improving classroom engagement and learning outcomes.
Mrs. Wiliams, also stated that WhyBlueSky’s initiative is scientifically proven and evidence-based, focusing on student engagement, critical thinking and problem-solving skills through Basic Science. She explained that the training was conducted virtually and designed for all teachers.
While highlighting some of the factors responsible for the decline in learning, Mrs. Williams mentioned lack of passion among some teachers, resistance to modern teaching methods and frequent transfer of trained personnel among others. She emphasised the need to make schools more friendly, conducive for both teachers and learners in order to improve commitment and productivity.
She further disclosed that the organisation had partnered with the Ogun SUBEB for four years, covering 18 local government areas, with Basic Science as its core subject.
In his welcome address, the Director of Teacher Development, Mr. Kolawole Adagojo, revealed that only Obafemi Owode and Odeda Local Government Areas were yet to be covered under the initiative, while commending Mrs. Wiliam, for the smooth collaboration with the Board.
