A major political realignment has emerged within the Ijebu North/Ijebu East/Ogun Waterside Federal Constituency following a landmark zoning agreement by party leaders aimed at fostering equity, unity, and electoral strength ahead of upcoming political contests.
The consensus arrangement, reached through what insiders described as a “gentleman’s agreement,” was finalized at a well-attended stakeholders’ meeting that brought together influential leaders from the three local government areas of the federal constituency.
The meeting was presided over by Senator Lekan Mustapha, a prominent political figure from Ijebu North Local Government Area.
According to sources at the meeting, deliberations were extensive, frank, and driven by a shared commitment to fairness and inclusion. At the end of discussions, leaders resolved to zone the House of Representatives ticket to Ijebu East Local Government Area, a move widely seen as a response to longstanding calls for equitable representation within the federal constituency.
The zoning of the house of representative to Ijebu East local government area came with a caveat that such candidate must be properly scrutinized, have good record, financially bouyant capable of sponsoring complementing the party financially and must be very popular across the federal constituency.
Despite the consensus, Ogun Waterside Local Government also expressed a strong and dignified interest in contesting for the House of Representatives seat, signaling healthy democratic engagement within the APC fold.
However, in a strategic compromise, Ijebu North Local Government formally indicated its preference for the Deputy Governorship slot, thereby paving the way for a balanced distribution of political opportunities.
Political observers note that the agreement reflects a growing culture of internal democracy and mutual respect among stakeholders in the federal constituency.
By ensuring that each local government area has a stake in the broader political equation, the leaders are believed to have strengthened cohesion and minimized the risk of intra-party disputes.
“This kind of arrangement demonstrates political maturity and foresight,” a party chieftain at the meeting remarked.
“It shows that our leaders are willing to put collective interest above personal ambition.”
The zoning deal is also expected to significantly boost the electoral prospects of the party across the federal constituency, as it promotes inclusiveness and mobilizes grassroots support from all three local government areas.
As political activities begin to gather momentum, stakeholders and party faithful alike are hopeful that the agreement will be respected and sustained, serving as a template for peaceful collaboration and strategic power-sharing in the region.
