INEC Removes David Mark-Led ADC NWC From Portal Over Court Order | The Alternative News

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has removed the National Working Committee (NWC) of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) led by former Senate President, David Mark, from its official portal following a directive from the Court of Appeal.

The electoral body disclosed this on Wednesday, stating that the decision was taken to preserve the status quo pending the final determination of the leadership dispute by the Federal High Court, Abuja.

INEC explained that the action aligns with an order of the appellate court delivered on March 12, 2026, which instructed all parties to maintain the existing situation and refrain from actions that could prejudice the outcome of the case.

According to the commission, the crisis within the ADC has persisted for months, with two factions laying claim to the party’s leadership, one led by David Mark and the other by Nafiu Bala Gombe.
The dispute has triggered multiple legal battles and heightened internal tensions within the party.

INEC revealed that the names of the NWC members under Mark were initially uploaded to its portal on September 9, 2025, seven days after a suit challenging the leadership was filed in court on September 2, 2025.

Citing the appellate court’s directive, the commission said the removal of the names is necessary to restore the pre-dispute situation.

“The Commission would, in accordance with the Order of the Court of Appeal in Appeal No. CA/ABJ/145/2026, refrain from taking any step capable of foisting a fait accompli on the court or rendering nugatory the proceedings before the trial court,” INEC stated.

INEC further confirmed that the affected names would remain off its portal until the court reaches a final judgment.
The commission also rejected a request by the faction loyal to Nafiu Bala Gombe seeking recognition of Bala as acting national chairman, noting that such action would violate the court’s directive.

In addition, INEC announced the suspension of all engagements with both factions of the party. This includes monitoring of meetings, congresses, and conventions organised by either group.

“The Commission shall not receive any further communication or deal with any of the parties or groups pertaining to the affairs of the party,” it added.

Reaffirming its neutrality, INEC assured Nigerians of its commitment to the rule of law and adherence to judicial pronouncements. It also cautioned political actors against actions that could disrupt preparations for the 2027 general elections.

The ADC leadership crisis remains unresolved, with both factions maintaining their claims. The eventual court ruling is expected to significantly shape the party’s structure ahead of the next electoral cycle.
