The apex leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State on Friday has endorsed Sharafadeen Alli as the party’s consensus governorship candidate for the 2027 election.

The decision was ratified at a high-level leadership summit held in Ibadan, as part of efforts to strengthen unity within the party ahead of the polls.

Party leaders explained that the consensus arrangement is aimed at preventing internal divisions and boosting the APC’s chances in the forthcoming governorship election, in line with similar moves in other states.

Speaking at the summit, Ayo Adeseun disclosed that the endorsement followed extensive consultations, including discussions with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He stated that the President, as leader of the party, plays a crucial role in determining who emerges as the party’s flag bearer.

Another party chieftain, Fatai Ibikunle, confirmed that Tinubu supported Alli’s candidacy and urged other aspirants to align with the decision in the interest of party unity.

Ibikunle emphasized that cohesion within the party would be vital in mounting a strong challenge in the 2027 governorship race.

The summit attracted party leaders and stakeholders from across the 33 local government areas of the state, underscoring the significance of the endorsement and the resolve to present a united front.

In his remarks, Alli expressed gratitude to party leaders for the confidence reposed in him, pledging to deliver inclusive governance if elected. He also appreciated President Tinubu for his guidance.

Meanwhile, Adebayo Adelabu, a former Minister of Power, recently resigned his position to contest for the APC governorship ticket in the state.
