Who is Prof. Segun Aina, New JAMB Registrar? | The Alternative News



Professor Segun Aina is a Nigerian academic and technology expert recently appointed as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He will succeed Professor Is-haq Oloyede, whose tenure ends on July 31, 2026. The appointment was confirmed by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.


Background and Education 

Aina is a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife. He holds:

A Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent

A Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security

A PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University, United Kingdom

Senior Management Programme certificate from Lagos Business School


Career and Experience

He began his career with JAMB during his National Youth Service, where he gained early experience in national admissions processes.


With over 15 years of professional experience, Aina has built a reputation at the intersection of:

Technology and Public Policy

Digital infrastructure development

Institutional and examination reforms


He has also worked as a consultant to major examination bodies such as NECO and NABTEB, as well as various state ministries of education, focusing on ICT systems, exam integrity, and process optimisation.

Became one of Nigeria’s youngest professors of Computer Engineering at age 39

Now set to become the youngest registrar in JAMB’s history
